Construction Manager and Architect

Construction Managers plan and coordinate all construction and rehabilitation projects to support the medical activities. You will be responsible for refurbishing or building health facilities and any other constructions MSF may need for its programs, such as accommodation, offices, pharmacies, warehouses, etc.

Tasks & Duties

  • Participate in project evaluation, design and development
  • Ensure that construction activities comply with local construction practices and MSF standards
  • Coordinate purchase orders, check materials are in stock and control warehouse inventory
  • Organize and prepare budgets associated with construction activities (e.g. prepare invoices, anticipate the cash flow needed for monthly payments)
  • Monitor the progress of constructions and contribute to monthly reports
  • Provide safety equipment for those working in construction to ensure the safety of workers
  • Manage, train and supervise the construction team through activities such as capacity-building, briefing/debriefing and evaluation of staff
  • Provide technical support and coaching to logistics staff

Essential requirements

  • Relevant diploma, preferably a university degree (e.g. engineering, construction or architecture)
  • At least two years’ relevant professional experience
  • Experience of construction work, follow-up and site supervision
  • Strong command of English
  • Advanced computer literacy

Desirable requirements

  • Professional experience in supervising, managing, or training staff
  • Knowledge of other languages, in particular French and/or Arabic
  • Previous international experience with INGOs, UN agencies, other humanitarian organisations, charities, etc.
  • Experience in working in developing countries
